Emilie Chevillard
career
Emilie is a harpist who defies categorization, driven by a boundless musical curiosity. Trained at the conservatory on the Celtic harp, an instrument rooted in traditional music, and having supplemented her training with classical studies, she has developed a passion for jazz, improvised music and world music throughout her career. This desire for openness, along with a quest for greater harmonic richness, led her to turn to the chromatic harp, a rare instrument with aligned strings designed by luthier Philippe Volant, which offers her greater freedom of expression and facilitates dialogue with other musicians, free from aesthetic constraints.
As a recipient of a grant from the Fondation de France for the chromatic harp, Emilie is committed to exploring and promoting this still-rare instrument. Always in search of new musical expressions, she develops her projects centered on the harp, incorporating various instrumental ensembles.
She founded the jazz quartet Colunia with drummer Florian Chaigne, which went on to explore intercultural collaborations, particularly focusing on the music of South India and maloya. She is also a member of the Stellar Music Ensemble, alongside Joachim Florent, Marie-Pascale Dubé, Jacky Molard, and Line Willerval, and forms a duo with pianist Peggy Buard, continuing her exploration of new textures and sonic spaces.
Throughout her career, Emilie has established a unique artistic vision, driven by a constant quest for freedom, attentiveness, and openness.
